Assalammualaikum,

 

  1. This is, of course, a rare occasion to receive our dear sister, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Vjosa Osmani Sadriu.

 

  1. And we Malaysians, the government and the people, rejoice the fact that she has accepted our invitation. We went through, of course, the history of Kosovo and we admire the resilience of its people having to endure so much difficulties, hardship and the atrocities committed against them.

 

  1. Malaysians as many of you are aware has followed this very closely the events of Bosnia Herzegovina and Kosovo. And when the Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was Prime Minister, he was one of the first to take the right step to recognize independent Republic of Kosovo.

 

  1. So, I welcome Dr. Vjosa Osmani, of course to this country’s members of her delegation? And although she did visit here earlier, but not as an, you know, official visit, particularly not as president. And thank you again for this Order of Independence more out of recognition of the Malaysian people who showed their love and affection and enduring support to the struggle and now independence of Kosovo.

 

  1. I have assured her that we’ll continue this bilateral consultation in the official level as soon as possible to ensure that we affect the programs, projects, trade and economic relations as soon as possible.

 

  1. We also warmly welcome the establishment Embassy of Kosovo in Kuala Lumpur, is really a significant milestone in our bilateral relations and this will certainly facilitate trade, investment, education, culture, tourism between our two countries and which includes, of course, Halal products, because the certification of Halal in Malaysia is recognized internationally and also facilitate the export of our products, export of products from Kosovo, but more critically, the collaboration between trade, and investment so that we can utilize the strength of Kosovo and the strong relations with the EU.

 

  1. I look forward to more engagements other than the technical cooperation (MTCP) with Kosovo. But please be assured, President, that we don’t treat this as an ordinary diplomatic engagement, but to give you this commitment that Malaysia is a true friend. We will remain committed beyond diplomatic engagement into trade, investment and meaningful between these two countries.

 

  1. And we discuss, of course, a number of international issues because we truly believe in the issue of independence, human rights, respect for human dignity and discovers a wide range of areas from Palestine to peace in the many parts of the world.

 

  1. And I may again, on behalf of my colleagues and the people of Malaysia, say thank you. Terima kasih.
